The lime green, maple-shaped leaves of this lovely tree are edged with a broad, irregular band of creamy yellow variegation. It is particularly eye-catching in early summer when the colour is fresh and strong. This is a tree which is always a delight though it is prone reverting by producing shoots with green foliage, often at a height that is beyond the reach of the average gardener.
If left unpruned green shoots will gradually take over the tree, and this can often be seen in trees planted but not regularly maintained by corporations. Despite its faults, this tree makes a lovely specimen for the larger garden.
